Kochi (Kerala): sunsets, pizza, dresses and perfumes.

English:

Kochi (Kerala): sunsets, pizza, dresses and perfumes.

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!

This week I'd like to enlighten everyone with one of the reddest sunsets I've ever seen... It took place in Kochi (Kerala, India) back in October 2016 and right after spending some days in Alleppey

As you all probably know, back then I was still living in India and, during a school break, I decided to travel there with my friend Cristina, whom I had met in Anantapur while volunteering - I am sure you have seen her in other posts, like Agra and Jaipur

So, while Alleppey was a very quiet area and we spent most of the time relaxing under a palm tree and on a boat in the Backwaters, this one, while also relaxing, was slightly more vivid - and crowded. We found Kochi to be full of tourists of all nationalities, hence the big amount of international restaurants that one can find there - and hence the number of times that we ate pizza.

Besides restaurants, Kochi was full of little - and charming - stores selling all kinds of clothes, furniture, tea, incense and (our favourite) perfumes. It was impossible to walk past those stores and not stop to get at least one of their beautiful dresses or one of their deliciously-smelling perfumes. In fact, after some days in Kochi, I went back "home" with four new dresses, six new perfumes and quite a few more things - including banana chips.

In Kochi we stayed at a guesthouse belonging to a very friendly Indian family. Said guesthouse is called Bethany Homestay and it's very easy to get to the most amazing sights in Kochi from there. However, we did have a problem at night: the electricity went off and we were left with no AC, which didn't allow us to sleep very well as it was boiling hot. This problem unfortunately persisted for our whole stay...

In order to get from Alleppey to Kochi, we went to the local bus station and we took a regular (and very uncomfortable) bus. The ticket was just 52 rupees and we got off a stop before the bus station because it was closer to our guesthouse (as we both had an Indian phone, we could check Google Maps regularly). That night, for dinner, we went to a restaurant called Pizza Italia and ate salad and pizza, two of the dishes that, as Spaniards, we missed the most.

On our full day in Kochi, we visited the most beautiful parts of the city by rickshaw (the family at the guesthouse can provide you with some telephone numbers belonging to reliable rickshaw drivers): the synagogue, a Dutch palace, Chinese fishing nets and the basilica. Besides that, we went to some stores and bought the aforementioned products: clothes, perfumes, incense and so on and so forth. Our favourite stores (and the cheapest ones) were the following: I.R.S., Asian Heritage Museum, Asian Cottage Industries and Indian Heritage. If you want me to write about everything you can find there as well as their location and email addresses, please leave a comment down below.

After a day of real Kochi fun, we went back to Trivandrum (also known as Thiruvanantapuram) by train and travelled back to Bangalore, our home at the time.

See you next week with a new post!
